New music for a new season
New Jazz
Our Steinway Immortal this month is the ground-breaking Fou Ts’ong, the Shanghai-born British pianist who was one of the first Asian pianists to successfully gain international recognition with his captivating, sensitive performances of Western music. The pianist, who passed away in December, here delivers Scarlatti’s Sonata in D minor, K. 213, recreated from a performance in 1968.
Isaiah J. Thompson, one of the newest pianists to join the Steinway Artist roster, debuts on Spirio as an exciting new voice in the jazz world. Thompson performs the jazz standard “Body & Soul,” Benny Golson’s “Blues After Dark,” and an original work: “A Prayer.”
Finally, Steinway Artist Antonio Pompa-Baldi is joined by his wife, Steinway Artist Emanuela Friscioni, in works for four hands: Schubert’s F minor Fantasy and Debussy’s Petite Suite.
