Steinway & Sons Triumphs At The XV International Tchaikovsky Competition

Renowned Piano Manufacturer Celebrates Dmitry Masleev’s Victory On A Steinway & Sons Model D Piano

Steinway & Sons, manufacturer of the world’s finest pianos, was selected by Dmitry Masleev of Russia, winner of the XV International Tchaikovsky Competition for piano, as the instrument of choice for the final round of judging. Held every four years in Moscow, the International Tchaikovsky Competition is considered to be amongst the most prestigious competitions in the music world and a launch pad for the careers of its young winners. Masleev secured his victory on a Steinway & Sons Model D piano following a performance of Tchaikovsky‘s concerto no.1 in b-flat minor and Prokofiev‘s 3rd piano concerto, accompanied by the State Academic Symphony Orchestra of Russia.

In a remarkable endorsement of the uncompromised quality and craftsmanship of Steinway & Sons pianos, all six finalists chose to perform on Steinway & Sons pianos for the final round of the contest, including two pianists who had previously switched from other piano brands used in earlier stages of the competition.

Steinway & Sons congratulates Dmitry Masleev on his extraordinary win at the International Tchaikovsky Competition and we are honored to have played a part in this tremendous accomplishment,” states Michael T. Sweeney, Chief Executive Officer of Steinway & Sons. Adding, “With more than 98% of the world’s piano soloists currently performing on Steinway & Sons pianos, we are deeply committed to supporting the artistic community through a wide array of initiatives. One essential part of this mission is helping the next generation of pianists realize their career potential through events like the International Tchaikovsky Competition.”

The remaining finalists who also performed on Steinway & Sons pianos include, Lucas Debargue (France), Lukas Geniušas (Russia/Lithuania), Daniel Kharitonov (Russia), George Li (USA), and Sergey Redkin (Russia).

Artists participating in the International Tchaikovsky Festival range in age from 16 to 30 years-old, with each vying for global acclaim and cash prizes ranging from $30,000-$2,000 in addition to the $100,000 Grand Prix prize.
