NEW YORK CITY, NY (June 23, 2017) – Steinway & Sons today announced the latest development in its ongoing collaboration with the Central Conservatory of Music (CCOM), Beijing. Yesterday, during a special reception and celebration at Steinway Hall in New York City, Steinway and CCOM leaders cut a ceremonial ribbon to open the doors of the new American Teaching Studio of Chinese Traditional Music from Central Conservatory of Music. This teaching studio will house artifacts and artwork of Chinese cultural significance and will be used for teaching Chinese traditional music and instruments.

During the celebration event, CCOM President Yu Feng was honored for his commitment to forging an energetic and productive partnership with Steinway to advance the teaching of traditional and contemporary Chinese music in America. In addition, a special musical performance featured visiting musicians playing traditional Chinese instruments and a recital by Steinway Artist Cheng-Zong Yin, one of the most renowned pianists in the world. 

The Central Conservatory of Music is China’s leading music school, and its piano department is recognized as an All-Steinway School. Among the Conservatory’s most prestigious alumni are Steinway Artists Lang Lang and Yuja Wang. The school has enjoyed a long collaboration with Steinway & Sons, and the grand opening of the new Steinway Hall studio marks the latest achievement in the partners’ effort to create synergies between Chinese and American piano teachers, students, and performing artists.
