Steinway allows me to unfold the world of imagination.
Yuja Wang
Biography Born into a musical family in Beijing, Yuja Wang began studying piano when she was six years old, and would go on to transition almost overnight from an unknown but hugely talented teenager to arguably the most famous Chinese-born female pianist after filling in for such artists as Martha Argerich and Murray Perahia. Wang’s prodigious virtuosity and technical control command critical appreciation; she is also regularly praised for the clarity of her musical insight, the freshness of her interpretations and charismatic power of her stage presence.
Wang believes that technique should never be an end in itself — that virtuosity should always serve the cause of emotional expression and musical interpretation. Above all she is devoted to cultivating and communicating her complete affinity with the works in her broad and eclectic repertoire, which include Mozart, Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Chopin, Scriabin, Rachmaninov, Prokofiev, and others.
Wang has built a strong relationship with the Deutsche Grammophon label since signing with them in 2009 — she has produced multiple critically-acclaimed records — and she maintains a busy performance schedule.
Wang has been a Steinway Artist since 2011.
