“I have found that the Steinway piano lets me express the richest colors, textures and nuances of my soul.”
Michel Camilo
Pianist and composer Michel Camilo was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, in 1954. Fascinated with music from an early age, he composed his first song at the age of five and would become a member of the National Symphony Orchestra at sixteen. In 1979, he moved to New York and continued to study piano and composition, making his Carnegie Hall debut with his trio in 1985. Camilo has since become a prominent figure performing and conducting regularly around the world.
Camilo has also enjoyed an incredibly successful recording career. In 1988, his self-titled debut album on the Sony label was an instant success, and held the top jazz album spot for ten consecutive weeks. His many albums since have garnered both critical and popular praise, as well as a Grammy, a Latin Grammy, and an Emmy award. With music that bridges the genres of jazz, classical, pop, and world music, Camilo uses his brilliant technique to flavor his tunes with the spice of Caribbean rhythm and jazz harmony.
Camilo has been a Steinway Artist since 2005.
