“If I am to play my best, there is no way but Steinway.”
Lang Lang
Hailing from the small Chinese town Shenyang, his meteoric rise to fame began at the age of 17, when Lang Lang was called upon to make a last-minute substitution for Andre Watts to play with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Today, his performances dazzle crowds small and large alike, and have inspired millions of people to both learn piano and invite classical music into their lives.
Lang Lang is now one of the world’s most prolific and highest-profile recording artists, and has been featured on every major TV network as well as in news and lifestyle titles the world over. He is also a tireless advocate and sponsor of music education, and was named a Messenger of Peace in 2013 by UN General Secretary Ban Ki for his efforts to promote global education through his Lang Lang International Music Foundation and Lang Lang Music World arts complex. He also frequently appears in and organizes benefit concerts, donating his performances to benefit worthy causes such as earthquake relief efforts in China and Haiti.
Lang Lang has fostered relationships with the greatest artists across genres, collaborating with performers as varied as the Philadelphia Orchestra, Metallica, jazz titan Herbie Hancock and dubstep dancer Marquese “nonstop” Scott. Similarly, he builds cultural bridges East and West, frequently introducing Chinese music to Western audiences, and vice versa.
Lang Lang has been a Steinway Artist since 2002.
