Jenna Z. Liang
Jenna Z Liang is a 16-year-old pianist from Vancouver, Canada, currently a sophomore at Phillips Academy Andover in the United States. She began playing piano at the age of four and has since grown into a dedicated and accomplished young musician. With twelve years of daily practice, she has trained under esteemed teachers, including Ms. Fafan Xiao, Ms. Cindy Liu, Dr. Sunsung Kong, Mr. David Vandereyk, Professor Mark Anderson, and Dr. Eugene Skovorodnikov in Vancouver. She also studied with Professor Jia Ning Kong at the Royal College of Music in London during her time at Wycombe Abbey School. Currently, she continues her musical training under Ms. Isabella Li and Mr. Konstantinos Papadakis at the New England Conservatory’s Preparatory School.
Jenna has earned numerous awards in both Canadian and international competitions. At just six years old, she won first place in the Crescendo International Competition, earning an invitation to perform at Carnegie Hall. Other career highlights include third place in the Canadian Music Competition National Final (2017), a Distinction prize at the 26th International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition for Children and Youth (2018), the Canadian Young Artists Standards of Excellence Award (2018), third prize at the USA Musical & Art Exchange International Piano Festival (2019), and second prize in the North America Regional Final Round of the Pacific Rim International Music Festival (2021). She gave her debut solo piano recital in Vancouver in 2021 and, the following year, earned her Associate Diploma (ARCT) with First Class Honors with Distinction. In 2024, she won first place at both the Crescendo International Music Competition and the SSP Sea to Sky International Piano Festival, received the Excellence Award at the URI Piano Extravaganza Concerts & Competition, and secured third prize at the Enkor International Music Competition. She won the first prize in the 2025 Classical Music Charleston Competition and won the Platinum Prize for Piano in the World Classical Music Awards in June 2025. Most recently, she won the First Prize in the Piano Duet/Duo Age 15-18 Category at the 2025 Canadian Music Competition - BC held in May 2025 and continued to win the First Prize for the National Finals in July 2025.
Beyond competitions, Jenna has performed with professional ensembles, including the Rimski-Korsakov String Quartet and Italy’s Orchestra Città di Grosseto. She has participated in prestigious international music festivals, such as the Tchaikovsky Moscow Conservatory summer program, the Casalmaggiore International Music Festival in Italy, and the USA Musical & Art Exchange International Piano Festival in Philadelphia.
Passionate about sharing music, Jenna teaches piano through Andover Lawrence Strings and regularly performs for residents at Windsor Place of Wilmington Assisted Living. In 2023, she co-founded Melody Lab, a nonprofit organization that has raised over $11,000 for children’s healthcare and music education initiatives.
Jenna is a Young Steinway Artist.
