Herbert Kwan
Herbert Kwan is a Vancouver based professional musician specializing in composing, arranging and piano performance. At a young age he finished Performer’s ARCT from the Royal Conservatory of Music and graduated from the University of British Columbia with a Bachelor of Music. He was invited to perform internationally in countries such as China, Hong Kong, United States, and nationally in Canada, and performed extensively in his local community. Locally he performed with many Asian singers such as Power Station, Frances Yip, Where Chou, Anabelle Louie, Albert Au, Pancy Lau, Andrew Cheung & Peter Cheung, Joey Tang, Eddie Ng and Rosanne Lui. Piano, string and orchestral music is where he excels the most in his composition and arranging. In 2016 & 2017 he was the Music Director for two singers from The Voice of China, Anson Ping and Ada Jin; 2016 he was the Music Director for Super Girls’ North America Finals; 2015 he was the Music Director for the Vancouver Chinese Film Festival; 2019 he led an ensemble and performed a concert with Henry Huo. In 2016, he was awarded Sing Tao Daily's Young Professional Medal of Merit Award. Since the pandemic, he focused on education and established the MusicLife Academy. Other than teaching students with a classical approach, he created an original pop piano teaching method helping students to learn improvising harmony while playing melody, and also mentoring students arranging and composing. In 2022, he was invited to be one of the judges for SING! CHINA Canada’s Finals. Upon purchasing a Steinway grand piano, he had been recording his original compositions that he had been composing throughout his life and plans to publish his album. With his unique style of playing, passion for music, and eagerness for music perfection, Herbert Kwan is one of the most active young musicians in Vancouver.
